This St. Patrick’s Day Coloring and Cutting activity is perfect for fine motor practice!
Use the top portion as a St. Patrick’s Day-themed coloring sheet. Kids can color in the leprechaun, rainbow, etc.
Then, have them color in the coins below the dotted line. (Have them do this before any cutting. It’s harder for little hands to color in the coins after they’ve been separated from the larger paper.)
Once everything is colored, you can have the kids cut out the coins and glue them into the pot. This is great for promoting scissor skills (and hand strength).
There are two versions of the cutting portion. The first version just has the kids cut the coins out in squares. That allows them to make short, simple cuts. This is best for toddlers or early preschool. (See the image below.)
The second version has the dotted line surrounding the coin in an oval shape. This is a more challenging cut to make, so it’s better for older preschooler and elementary students. (It also looks neater when glued on the paper.)
When to use this St. Patrick’s Day Printable
You can use this printable activity in a variety of ways. One option is to make it a center activity, so only a few students are coloring or cutting at a time.
Another option is to make it a whole class activity. You can have all the students work on their coloring and cutting together during the week of St. Patrick’s Day. You can mix up the festivities throughout the week by trying a variety of St. Patrick’s Day learning activities (<–this post has 17 different, fun St. Paddy’s ideas!)
You can print the activity out to keep on hand at home. Pull it out when there’s a little downtime and give your child some extra fine motor practice.
